Words of Warming is a new series from Future Human defining the language of climate change and environmental and climate justice.

Definition of climate emergency

: the state we’re currently in, where the deadly consequences of global warming predicted by scientists have already started occurring in ecosystems around the world; used by activists, politicians, and scholars to express the urgency of acting to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change. Governments around the world have begun declaring climate emergencies, and climate action policy is supposed to follow.
